We recently picked up on the following comment received by the prestigious Restaurant Guide web site:
“My boyfriend and I visited Centotre last Friday night and what a great time we had! I had eaten there for lunch before but never been in the evening, the chandelier there is beautiful and creates a lovel ambience. It was my partner’s birthday so I requested one of the booths at the window which we were told normally cannot be reserved, the person who took the reservation said they would do their best to get one and sure enough one was saved for us when we arrived. We were greeted by the very friendly owner who showed us to our table. Our waitress was lovely, very attentive but also knew when to leave us alone. The food was delicious, fresh and not at all stodgy as is sometimes the case with Italians. After our meal we got chatting to the owner and after mentioning my boyfriend’s birthday were presented with two limoncellos on the house. It was a great night, we’ll definitely be back!”
Victor responds: “We’re both delighted and humbled at such praise, and grateful to customers who take the time to comment on these online guides.
It also encourages us to continually keep up and surpass the high standards we hold ourselves to in offering the very best to our customers.
Molte Grazie.”
Here are a few more reasons to visit Centotre over the next few months.

Over the next few months at Centotre we’ll be selling raffle tickets in support of St Andrew’s Cathedral, the oldest and most venerable Catholic church in central Scotland as it embarks on an ambitious project to create a wonderful Italian Cloister.
First prize is a week’s hotel accommodation in Italy, second prize, an audience with the Pope in Rome! (Which in some people’s book should perhaps be first prize!)
All proceeds go to the redevelopment fund.
In the words of the Archbishop of Glasgow: “The monument itself will be a fitting and beautiful symbol of the great bonds of friendship between Scotland and Italy. Besides offering much needed facilities and gathering space for the Cathedral, the Cloister Garden will quickly become a much-loved oasis of tranquility amid the city bustle; a place to come alone or with friends, to reflect, to sit awhile and to remember. Please help me in this effort.”
Sincere thanks to Flickr Photographers Ross, Andy and Richard for taking time out from their Centotre Hot Chocolate, Cup Cakes & Pancakes respectively, (and respectfully!) to shoot and upload them to flickr.
We really appreciate it.
Introduce yourself to Victor or Carina (or DM @centotre) next time you come in chaps, and your Hot Chocolate, Cup Cakes and Pancakes are on us.

We’re absolutely delighted to have persuades top Bassist Erik Lars Hansen to play at Centotre, on Sunday nights, from 7.00-9.30 for the next three weeks.
Erik, a renowned and respected Bassist, relocated to Edinburgh from Los Angeles, and over a distinguished career has worked with many fine musicians on both sides of the Atlantic, including Chris Walden and the Chris Walden Big Band, vocalist Tierney Sutton, guitarist Steve Brown, The Blue Rhythm Jazz Orchestra, and Fat Sams Band.
He is also a founder and co-leader of the Jazzbar Big Band in Edinburgh.
Bobby Wishart has long been a fixture on the Scottish Jazz scene. His primary instruments are tenor sax and flute, although he is also an excellent keyboard player. He has worked with many fine musicians, including Benny Carter, Gerry Mulligan, Ronnie Scott, George Russell, Arturo Sandoval, Annie Ross, Jack Bruce, Stevie Winwood, and many many others. He was also the founder and long-time leader of the h Youth Jazz Orchestra and a founding member of the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra.
Frank Bolam is one of the nation’s top guitarists. His group has performed on BBC’s Jazz Club and STV’s Jazz Series plus most of the major Jazz festivals.
So as you can see only the best for Centotre, and of course, our customers.

The Contini family supported the charity 500 Miles in fine style today.
Covering a total of 9 miles if you tot up the team total.
Covering the 1 mile course in a dazzling time of around 9 Crostini and 24 Secondi, the team consisting of: Carina, Victor, Orlando, Carla and Arianna, plus kitchen staff Yvonne, (aka ‘Miss Cupcake’), Yuri & Attila, plus a gift-wrapped box of the Cup Cake Caffe’s finest, a pizza, a kilo or two of beautiful purple aubergines plus a 3 litre bottle of fine Frescobaldi.
On completing the course, Carina said: “One of the organisers of 500 Miles is the inspirational Olivia, a great friend of Centotre and we wanted so very much to support the event today.”
While Victor was somewhat more difficult to get a quote out of.
We’re not sure that is was due to lack of pre-race training, consuming most of the bottle of Frescobaldi throughout the race, or the fact that in a photo finish it look liked young Ariana beat Victor to the tape by a considerable margin.
All in all a wonderful afternoon in aid of a wonderful cause. And please, if you can, support the charity here on Victor and Carina’s Just Giving donation page for the event.

Press Release:
The National Galleries of Scotland announced today a new collaboration with Victor and Carina Contini, the hugely successful partnership that brought the restaurant Centotre to Edinburgh.
The Scottish Café and Restaurant at the National Gallery.
Celebrating the very best ingredients from Scottish producers and growers, and offering delicious, yet affordable food in a wonderful setting.
The restaurant, which, for the first time, will serve breakfast every day from 9.00 am, will open on 19 October 2009, in the National Gallery Complex, on The Mound. The restaurant will also now open for dinner on Saturday evenings.
Following the same principles of fresh, simple, good value food on offer at Centotre, the concept for The Scottish Café and Restaurant will focus on local produce and Scottish cuisine.
Michael Clarke, Director of the National Gallery of Scotland said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with such a high-profile and successful company as Centotre. At the National Gallery of Scotland we feel it is particularly appropriate that the cuisine will have a distinctly contemporary and Scottish flavour – to be enjoyed by our visitors from home and abroad! “
Carina Contini said: “We are thrilled to have won the contract with the National Gallery of Scotland and are looking forward to showcasing the best of Scottish producers and suppliers in The Scottish Café and Restaurant.”
The restaurant interior will have a new look, devised by Annie and Lachie Stewart of ANTA, a family-run Scottish design and architecture firm. Individually commissioned, hand-woven fabrics, Scottish oak and Caithness slate will feature in their planned redesign. A number of original oil paintings by the celebrated Scottish artist Sir William Gillies will also be on show.
The Café will serve great coffee and traditional Aberdeen Butteries, made to its own special recipe. Lunch will include hearty homemade soup, old-fashioned tasty open sandwiches, beautiful salads and lots of irresistible homemade cakes. Traditional Afternoon Tea and the classic Scottish favourite, High Tea, will be served from 3pm to 6pm every day. The Restaurant will be open from Monday to Sunday, from 9.00 am until 5 pm, with dinner being served on Saturday evenings.
