Centotre Review: Lisa Stewart, Scotsman.com

Lisa Stewart, 43, a marketing consultant who lives in Newington, picks her top five places for al fresco dining

1 Bisque bar & brasserie, Bruntsfield Place It’s hidden from view, leafy and quiet. Delicious salads, homemade burgers, the best of Borders beef and classic fish cakes give a flavour of its treats. All great value.

2 A Room in Leith, Dock Place Sister of A Room in Town and A Room in the West End, this Scottish bistro on a pontoon offers a lunch menu that changes daily and a dinner menu featuring interesting meat, fish and vegetarian options.

3 Petit Paris, The Grassmarket Checked tablecloths draped over rustic tables in the square create the perfect venue to dine on traditional mussels, fish soup and other French delicacies.

4 Centotre, George Street At this city centre venue, both sophisticated and more traditional Italian food is served by friendly staff in relaxed European style.

5 Oloroso, Castle Street This restaurant has imaginative, contemporary cooking down to an art. The outdoor menu is simple but the choices are deliciously fresh and perfect for a hot day.
