Please support the Italian Cloister Fund for St Andrew’s Cathedral. We are.

October 14, 2009

Over the next few months at Centotre we’ll be selling raffle tickets in support of St Andrew’s Cathedral, the oldest and most venerable Catholic church in central Scotland as it embarks on an ambitious project to create a wonderful Italian Cloister.

First prize is a week’s hotel accommodation in Italy, second prize, an audience with the Pope in Rome! (Which in some people’s book should perhaps be first prize!)

All proceeds go to the redevelopment fund.

In the words of the Archbishop of Glasgow: “The monument itself will be a fitting and beautiful symbol of the great bonds of friendship between Scotland and Italy. Besides offering much needed facilities and gathering space for the Cathedral, the Cloister Garden will quickly become a much-loved oasis of tranquility amid the city bustle; a place to come alone or with friends, to reflect, to sit awhile and to remember. Please help me in this effort.”

Spread the Love !

We’re absolutely delighted to have persuades top Bassist Erik Lars Hansen to play at Centotre, on Sunday nights, from 7.00-9.30 for the next three weeks.

Erik, a renowned and respected Bassist, relocated to Edinburgh from Los Angeles, and over a distinguished career has worked with many fine musicians on both sides of the Atlantic, including Chris Walden and the Chris Walden Big Band, vocalist Tierney Sutton, guitarist Steve Brown, The Blue Rhythm Jazz Orchestra, and Fat Sams Band.

He is also a founder and co-leader of the Jazzbar Big Band in Edinburgh.

Bobby Wishart has long been a fixture on the Scottish Jazz scene. His primary instruments are tenor sax and flute, although he is also an excellent keyboard player. He has worked with many fine musicians, including Benny Carter, Gerry Mulligan, Ronnie Scott, George Russell, Arturo Sandoval, Annie Ross, Jack Bruce, Stevie Winwood, and many many others. He was also the founder and long-time leader of the h Youth Jazz Orchestra and a founding member of the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra.

Frank Bolam is one of the nation’s top guitarists. His group has performed on BBC’s Jazz Club and STV’s Jazz Series plus most of the major Jazz festivals.

So as you can see only the best for Centotre, and of course, our customers.

“And, we would walk 500 miles….”

October 3, 2009

The Contini family supported the charity 500 Miles in fine style today.

Covering a total of 9 miles if you tot up the team total.

Covering the 1 mile course in a dazzling time of around 9 Crostini and 24 Secondi, the team consisting of: Carina, Victor, Orlando, Carla and Arianna, plus kitchen staff Yvonne, (aka ‘Miss Cupcake’), Yuri & Attila, plus a gift-wrapped box of the Cup Cake Caffe’s finest, a pizza, a kilo or two of beautiful purple aubergines plus a 3 litre bottle of fine Frescobaldi.

On completing the course, Carina said: “One of the organisers of 500 Miles is the inspirational Olivia, a great friend of Centotre and we wanted so very much to support the event today.”

While Victor was somewhat more difficult to get a quote out of.

We’re not sure that is was due to lack of pre-race training, consuming most of the bottle of Frescobaldi throughout the race, or the fact that in a photo finish it look liked young Ariana beat Victor to the tape by a considerable margin.

All in all a wonderful afternoon in aid of a wonderful cause. And please, if you can, support the charity here on Victor and Carina’s Just Giving donation page for the event.
